King, A.S. (2013). Reality Boy. Little Brown and Company. Gerald Faust is angry at the fact that when he was five years old his family was in a reality show where he would poop on just about everything to get even with his mother and sister Tasha. The show portrayed him as the bad one when in reality it was his sister Tasha. Although twelve years have passed he is still known as the crapper. He is the youngest of three. His older sister Tasha lives in the basement with her boyfriend. Lisi left after graduation to live in England to get away from their mother and Tasha. Through out his whole life Gerald has had to put up with Tasha being mean to Lisi and him and no one believing them. Tasha was the main cause of Gerald's anger issues. Not only was Tasha mean to them but also their mother except she never told anyone about it.  It wasn't until now that his father finally realized that it was all Tasha. She was very good at convincing their mother that she never did anything her siblings accused her of. When in reality it was all her doing. Now that Gerald is older and has been able to control his anger with the help of his anger management coach he can try to live a normal life. Gerald meets Hannah and together they are able to help each other out. She too is struggles with the fact that her parents depend on her to do everything around the house. In the end Gerald and his dad move out leaving Tasha and their mom to live alone. A strength I found was how Gerald was able to control his anger enough to let Hannah into his life although his coach was against it. Another book like this one is Dead Ends by Erin J. Lange. Something I learned from this book is that reality shows are not always what they seem. In Gerald's reality show there was a real nanny and the T.V. nanny. The T.V. nanny was just for show and not really there to help them. I also learned that as parents we should have favorites. You can clearly see that Tasha was their mother's favorite child and she never believed anything her other two children said. She chose not to believe because she was blinded by the love she had for Tasha.
